Chord Names - Keyboard Symbol substitutions
For symbols that don't exist on your keyboard, type the closest-looking thing.
For example, when you type a lowercase 'b' after a letter-name, it will be automatically converted to a '♭'. (Also, the 'pound sign' or 'hashtag' symbol is actually converted to a 'sharp' symbol (♯). Though they look very similar, they're not identical.)
- Here is a list of all supported conversions:
- When you type a lowercase letter A through G as the first character, it will be converted to uppercase. (The first letter of a chord name is always capitalized.)
- For subsequent characters:
- 'b' is converted to '♭'.
- '#' is converted to '♯'.
- '^' (carat) is converted to '△' ('major 7th')
- 'o' (lowercase o) is converted to ○ (diminished chord)
- 'q' (or '%' or '@') is converted to to ø (half-diminished chord)
The following characters are recognized as standard chord name characters (no conversion necessary):
- '-' (minus sign) is interpreted as 'minor' (or ♭, depending on context)
- '+' (plus sign) is interpreted as 'augmented' (or ♯, depending on context)
